Mission & Philosophy

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic School is a diverse, welcoming school community committed to making a high-quality Catholic education available to as many children as possible as we live out our faith in our educational mission of the Church.

In partnership with the parish and the parents, we advance the Church’s mission of evangelization by educating the mind and forming the heart and spirit of each child.  This educational ministry facilitates the spiritual, moral, intellectual, social, and physical growth of the whole child.  In recognition of the family as the primary educators of their child, we offer a Christ-centered education that seeks to instill Catholic morals and virtues into the total learning experience of our students.  As part of the faith community, students are prepared to live out the Gospel message, actively engaged in service of God, Church, and neighbor.

The document, To Teach As Jesus Did, compiled and approved by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in November, 1972, is the basis for our Philosophy.  We state our commitment to the total education of our students at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School by implementing its threefold message.

Message “For I have not spoken on my own, no, the Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to speak. Since I know that this commandment means eternal life, whatever I say is spoken just as He instructed me.” – John 12:49-50

Community “I give you another commandment:   Love one another.  Such as my love has been for you, so must your love be for each other.  This is how all will know you for my disciples, your love for one another.” – John 13:34-35

Service “You address me as ‘teacher’ and ‘Lord’ and fittingly enough for that is what I am. But if I washed your feet- I who as Teacher and Lord- then you must wash each other’s feet.  What I just did was to give you an example.  As I have done, so you must do.” – John 13:13-15
